St Marys Thistle 35 000 is a one-a-day tablet that has been standardised to contain 400mg silybin, which is the main active constituent responsible for St Mary's thistle's effects on the liver.

St Marys thistle supports liver health and is traditionally used in Western herbal medicine to protect the liver.

St Marys thistle supports healthy digestion and is traditionally used in Western herbal medicine to relieve digestive discomfort and symptoms of indigestion, including flatulence, abdominal bloating and feelings of fullness.

St Marys thistle is traditionally used in Western herbal medicine to maintain gallbladder health.

St Marys thistle is an antioxidant that reduces free radicals formed in the body.

  • Silybum marianum (St Mary's thistle) seed extract 500mg, derived from dry seed minimum 35g (stand. to contain flavanolignans calc. as silybin 400mg)

Adults: Take 1 tablet daily, with food, or as directed by your health professional.

Does not contain egg, milk, peanut, corn, tree nuts, animal products, gluten, lactose or artificial colours, flavours or preservatives.

DRUG INTERACTIONS:

Caution with any medication, as St Mary's thistle can improve liver function, and therefore may affect how drugs are metabolised. Pharmacokinetic research shows that St Mary's thistle extract does not significantly influence many of the cytochrome P450 pathways in the liver, however, until more is known, caution is advised. Take 2 hours apart from medication as a general rule.

Contraindicated with morphine - St Mary's thistle may affect serum levels of morphine and increase or decrease its effect.

Caution with darunavir/ritonavir (antiviral agents) - a small study found St Mary's thistle may cause a small reduction in drug concentrations in the blood. Monitor.

Caution with hypoglycaemic medications - St Mary's thistle may have additive effects. Monitor.

Caution with tamoxifen - St Mary's thistle may increase plasma levels of drug. Monitor.

Caution with warfarin - St Mary's thistle may affect drug metabolism. Monitor INR.

CAUTIONS:

Contraindicated in individuals with a known allergy to the Asteraceae family.

Not recommended in pregnancy due to a lack of safety data. St Mary's thistle is often used as a galactagogue, however, it is not reommended to increase detoxification during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

SIDE EFFECTS:

May cause mild laxative effects, nausea, diarrhea, dyspepsia, flatulence, abdominal bloating, fullness or pain in sensitive individuals.

May cause allergic reactions including urticaria, eczema, skin rash in individuals sensitive/allergic to the Asteraceae family.
