Several medications can affect vitamin D levels, affecting calcium homoeostasis, including barbituates, phenytoin and related compounds, anticonvulsants and antiretroviral therapy.
Caution with burosumab vitamin D supplementation may result in additive risk of developing elevated phosphate or vitamin D levels thereby increasing the risk of nephrocalcinosis. Avoid co-administration.
Caution with digoxin concurrent vitamin D may elevate serum calcium levels which can increase toxicity of cardiac glycosides.
Monitor calcium levels.
Caution with thiazide diuretics can cause an increase in serum calcium levels when co-administered with vitamin D. Monitor serum calcium levels.
Caution with phosphates vitamin D may increase the gastrointestinal absorption of oral phosphates, which may lead to elevated phosphate levels. Monitor phosphate, vitamin D, calcium and parathyroid hormone concentrations during concurrent use.
Caution with orlistat (weight loss) and cholestyramine may impair the absorption of vitamin D. Separate dose by 2 hours.
