Adults: take 1 tablet daily, preferably at the same time every day, one hour before or after meals.

To achieve an optimal treatment effect, it is recommended to take Premular ® every day for a minimum of three months. Although the majority of the research is over three menstrual cycles, it is recommended to continue past three months to help reduce symptom recurrence. The research on Premular ® supports its use in both the luteal and follicular phases of the menstrual cycle, i.e. every day of the menstrual cycle.

Do not recommend if there is a history of hypersensitivity to Vitex agnus-castus.

Contains 40 milligrams lactose. According to a systematic review, up to 12-15 grams may be tolerated by those with lactose intolerance or malabsorption, with a minimum of 15 grams required for diagnosis. Therefore, 40mg is a very low amount of lactose. However, those with the rare hereditary conditions of galactose intolerance, lactase deficiency or glucosegalactose malabsorption should not take lactose containing medications.

Vitex agnus-castus may bind to oestrogen and dopamine receptors and have a possible effect on the hypothalamic-pituitary axis. Health professional monitoring is required for those with a history of oestrogen sensitive cancers, hypothalamic-pituitary axis conditions & prolactin-secreting tumours of the pituitary gland.

There are no known reported drug interactions; however, caution is recommended when prescribing Premular ® with dopamine agonists/antagonists or oestrogen/antioestrogen medications. Extra contraceptive precautions may be required if using Premular ® concomitantly with the oral contraceptive pill.

There are no published studies to establish safety or rationale for the use of Premular ® during pregnancy, or while breastfeeding, so use is not recommended.
